Sewing: Sweet Little Ruffle Hack to Maxi Dress

Sewing: Sweet Little Ruffle Hack to Maxi Dress
Jacqui Taylor

Are you wondering what to wear to your next festive function? Well, Hannah Coyle from @handmadehannah_ has the answer with the Nerida Hansen Maxi Dress in Margaret Jeane's Floral design. It sure has the wow factor!

For an extra twist she has added a ruffle and this is how:

Step 1. Cut one piece of fabric 80cm wide (1.7X width of bodice) x 11cm high

Step 2. Fold in half wrong sides together and press

Step 3. Starting and ending 1.5cm from the edge, add gathers x2 rows within 1cm SA
Step 4. With right sides together, stitch ends of the mini ruffle into the top sides of skirt piece 1 / tier 1, then stitch skirt piece 1 together as per pattern instructions and add gathers as per instructions.
Step 5. With right sides together, pull and gather mini ruffle to match the length of the bodice.

Step 6. Baste stitch in place
Step 7. Then pull skirt tier 1 gathers to match the length of the bodice and mini ruffle  - the mini ruffle, bodice piece and skirt tier 1 piece should be right sides together. Pin in place.
Step 8. Stitch and overlock, press down

That is it, a sweet frill detail! Shop the fabric and patterns at www.neridahansen.com.au

    My Sustainability Journey

Sustainability is at the core of everything now. Environmentally, socially, morally. There is SO MUCH MORE to Sustainability than local production or organic fabric.

My biggest learning is that SUSTAINABILITY IS A JOURNEY, NOT AN END RESULT. Very few companies have it right, but we all need to begin somewhere.
